Welcome to "Community powered by AfricaX" (Guideline)

Over the last couple of months, AfricaX has sought to create platform to allow new African Immigrants to settle into their new community through HowTo, insights, articles, and webinars which some have found very useful. As a next step, we have created a platform to give everyone the freedom to own and shape conversations while contributing to a progressive and all-inclusive community.

Community by AfricaX will be a platform where you , and every other enthusiast and stakeholder in the African in Diaspora ecosystem, can freely discuss topics of interest, exchange ideas, as well as network.

As you engage and debate constructively on the platform, you will find that your voice is important to sustaining this community. Consequently, we hope your time is as fulfilling as we’ve envisaged.

Finally, we believe the conversations here set the tone for every new arrival. We, therefore, call on you to help us influence the future of this community by engaging intelligently.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT

Before you jump into the community proper, we implore you to read the rules of engagement on the platform here.

BE CIVIL, ALWAYS.

This is a public discussion forum and the opinions of others MUST be respected.

  • Don’t post anything that can be considered to be offensive, abusive, or hate speech.
  • Don’t post obscene or sexually explicit content.
  • Respect people’s views and opinions.
  • Don’t impersonate people.
  • Do not blackmail or threaten people.
  • Don’t post spam on the platform.

This is not an exhaustive list, but rather a guide that shows what kinds of actions we expect from everyone. We expect that basic decency and good judgement will further guide our actions and interactions.

IMPROVE THE DISCUSSION

Your goal in joining a conversation should always be to improve it either with your insights or questions.

When in doubt that your contribution improves a discourse, please remain silent.

Also, replies to a topic should be relevant to that topic. To start a different conversation, click the ‘New Topic’ button.

BE OPEN TO DISSENTING OPINIONS

While it is okay to disagree with a position, remember to always criticize ideas/positions and not people.

Please avoid name-calling, knee-jerk reactions, and responding to a post’s tone rather than its content.

Instead, provide well thought out counter-arguments that improve the conversation. Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them, even if you disagree with some of what is being said.

DON’T SELL OR ADVERTISE

Community is not a place for advertising or any kind of multi-level marketing of products and services.

DON’T POST TRIBAL CONTENT

Tribal conversations, either implicit or explicit, will not be tolerated.

AVOID SHARING PERSONAL INFORMATION IN OPEN DISCUSSIONS

While we encourage connecting beyond this platform, we strongly advice against sharing personal information like your phone number, email, address or account details in public discussion for your safety. If you must, only share private information with trusted individuals via private messages.

IF YOU SEE A PROBLEM, FLAG IT.

When you notice bad behaviour, DO NOT ENGAGE.

Engaging / replying is an acknowledgement that can be counter-productive in terms of drawn-out exchanges that are unnecessary.

So, what should you do?

JUST FLAG IT and the moderators of the Community will take appropriate action.

By the powers vested in our moderators, they reserve the right to remove any content and any user account that breaks the rules guiding this community.

PENALTIES

The penalties, ranging from suspension to a total ban, for flouting the Community’s rules are as follows:
